Classroom Management
I am pleased to have your child in my first grade class. We can look forward to many exciting and rewarding experiences throughout the school year.
I firmly believe that life-long success depends on self-discipline and personal responsibility, so throughout the year I will use discipline to maintain order and control as necessary. Your child deserves the most positive educational climate possible for academic and personal growth. Therefore, I offer the following guidelines and standards of acceptable behavior that will be enforced throughout the year.
Guidelines for Student Behavior:
My role regarding student behavior is to guide students toward personal responsibility, self-discipline, and the decision-making skills they will need to function in the real world. If a student behaves in a way that creates a problem for him/herself or anyone else, I will provide consequences that allow the child to experience the result of a poor choice, enabling him/her to make better choices in the future. This may be, but not limited to, sending him/her to a recovery spot within the classroom or a recovery room outside of the classroom. Consequences will be designed to fit the problems of individual students, and they may be different for each student, even when problems appear to be the same. The purpose of these guidelines is to enable students to grow and learn from their actions.
To promote a positive environment and acceptable behavior, I provide three personal standards that students are expected to follow or work toward:
1. Show Respect
2. Make Good Choices
3. Solve Problems
I will be discussing these guidelines and standards with the students throughout the year, but the impact would be even greater if these guidelines and standards are also encouraged at home.
If you have any concerns about the above guidelines and standards, please feel free to get in touch with me to discuss a better plan that may work and be more appropriate.

- You may behave in any way that does not create a problem for you or anyone else.
- If you have a problem, you may solve it in any way that does not cause a problem for you or anyone else.
- If you cannot solve the problem, or choose not to, I will need to do something. What I do depends on the special person that you are and the situation.
